Back to Tortoises Aldabran Tortoise Geochelone gigantea Glasgow Zoopark keeps several species of tortoises. Perhaps the most dramatic are the giant tortoises from Aldabra an island in the Indian ocean.
Habitat: Rough, rocky areas with limited vegetation Status: Common 100,000 approx. on Aldabra Island Located: Aldabra Island in the Indian Ocean Size: Males, which are larger than females can grow to 1.4 metres in length.
Windsor, our Aldabran male was donated to Queen Elizabeth on a visit to the Seyschelles Islands.
