Adult Size: 16-18cm in length

Reproduction: Mating occurs in January/February - a single egg is laid in July

This species has a soft flattened shell and takes refuge in rocky crevices when disturbed. Exploitation for the pet trade has been the main threat to this tortoise, but has ceased in Kenya since a ban on exports was imposed in 1981. The clearance of scrubland for farming is now the most serious threat.
